Chef David Burke, noted for his scrappy, never-quit attitude, has joined the proud ranks of New York restaurateurs committed to feeding healthcare workers on the front lines during these trying times. Burke has launched #FeedtheHeroes, an operation that provides meals to first responders and medical personnel battling the pandemic in the New Jersey and New York City area.
The effort arose from the ashes of Burke’s empire of a dozen world-class restaurants, which was decimated by the COVID-19 virus.
“Chefs, and the restaurant industry as a whole, are like the piano players on the Titanic,” said Burke. ”We want to cook! We want to serve. That’s the restaurant mentality,” adding:
In times of crisis we must be resourceful. And this is what happens when the entrepreneurial and hospitality minds come together. This is exactly what we need to stay positive to beat this virus. We have to work together to come up with solutions.
Restaurant people don’t like to be defeated. We have the skill, the determination, and time. All we need now is the money.
